Hurricane Ike 2 Texas 2008
When I was in Houston responding to Ike the first time and headed to Baton
Rouge to help Mercy Chefs, Brady of ACTS, CC Plano, headed to the San Leon
area.  They met up with some folks who asked for help.  They set up their utility
storage trailer, some tools, people and got to work.  CC Stone Mountain donated
their relief trailer with tools to CC Plano, what a blessing!

About a week or two after Ike hit, while helping an older gentleman out with some
clean up at his home, the neighbor, another elderly lady by the name of Jean,
came over to make sure everything was OK with him and his family.

The team started talking to Jean and discovered that she too had some issues with
her home.  The storm had destroyed over half of her roof, bringing water into the
living room and other areas causing even more damage.  She evacuated for the
storm and when she returned and saw all the damage, she had a slight heart
attack.  She was taken to the hospital where she suffered a more severe heart
attack and remained there for about a week.  She had just gotten back home when
the team began to question her as to what needs she had.  She didn't have
homeowner's insurance just like many other elderly homeowners who have lived
in the same house for many years.  Her husband passed away several years before
and her home had gone into disrepair since then.  FEMA gave her $2000 to go
towards her repair bills and she had no money to add to that.

Brady and the team decided to go in and help clean up the home, but the roof and
mold damage was more than they were equipped to deal with at the time.  Brady
called and asked if I was still praying about returning to help and I said yes.  He
then told me about Jean and it was decided that I would try to get some help to
come down and replace her roof.

Chuck, who attends CC Sarasota, had emailed me while I was responding the last
time.  He said that he was retiring and that his wife suggested that he start joining
me in our adventures.  I asked him if he was serious and he replied he was pretty
sure she was!  I contacted Chuck and it was determined that we would head out
and trust the Lord to provide the finances and get the job done.

While there a good friend, John, contacted us and he too came out and joined in
the fun.  Also, an old high school buddy of Chuck's lives in Houston and he joined
in the torture for a day!

The trip was a lot of fun, thanks mostly to Chuck, or Chuckles as I now
affectionately call him.

We were able to get the roof repaired, remove the mold and termite damage as
well as help rebuild Jean's porch.  We had different people who came and helped us
on different days.  When we finished up at Jean's, we still had a couple of days left
so the church we were staying at sent us to cut down some trees and we built two
sets of stairs for a mobile home that had been washed out from the storm.  We
were also able to help do some repairs on the church as it too was under water
from the storm.

On the ministry side of things, God never ceases to amaze me as to how He wants
us to minister, rarely is it what we think.  There was a couple who had traveled
quite a distance that were staying in the camp, a male and a female who were not
married to each other.  They are part of a group that ministers to drug and alcohol
addicts.  They are believers and a little different than myself, but isn't everyone!
We were given the opportunity to minister to them or cast them aside and felt the
Lord telling us to minister to them, doesn't He always!  We ended up turning a bad
situation around and they ended up leaving just before we did, heading to places
they'd of never gone had it not been for the time that we got to spend with them
and what God did!
