D.I.R.T. Spring Training Camp 2007
After serving alongside DIRT and Brother Charles Atkins in Lady Lake, We
talked and emailed back and forth and he gave me pointers while I learned as
quickly as I could.

His ministry was in contact with some folks in
North Carolina who were
interested in starting a relief team and joining up with DIRT.  Charles asked
us if we'd like to help assist him and of course learn even more!

Meanwhile, through a series of events, I came in contact with Tim Wylie, a
pastor at CC Costa Mesa who also leads Parakletos International, the relief
ministry of CC Costa Mesa.  Tim and his trusty sidekick Tom also agreed
to come out to North Carolina for the training.  We thought we could use this
time to discuss how the Lord was leading us and to see if and how we could
coordinate our ministries and help each other.

Mary Jo and I were already traveling for a few weeks, spending time with
friends and family.  We got to Herman & Ruth's, the folks who were hosting
the training, on Thursday afternoon.  We got settled in and then helped set
things up for the training.  Tim and Tom also arrived and we were able to
meet them and have dinner.

Friday morning I was asked to go with Charles to pick up a food trailer and
meet some guy named Gary.  Turns out Gary was the founder of Mercy
Chefs, and he had just had a 32' custom kitchen trailer built and was picking
it up so that it could be used at the training.

We made it back in time to finish getting set up and then the group began
arriving.  There were quite a few locals in attendance as well as those who
had traveled to participate in the activities. The training was very
informative and we certainly learned a lot about responding to disasters.

The training was especially beneficial in that was the beginning of some
great friendships and contacts.  Connecting with Tim, Tom, Gary and
Charles has been a great blessing to me and to Relief Ministries Calvary
Chapel Sarasota.  No doubt we would not be moving forward in the ministry
as we are without their knowledge, input, and guidance.  We also made some
great friends such as Herman and Ruth while there!

I truly thank God for putting them in our path and for the friendships that
have developed.  Even if we don't respond together, we remain in touch and
we continue to lift up each other and our ministries in prayer.  What an
awesome privilege it is to serve our great Lord and Savior together!
